Il World Press Photo si è concluso, ora si aspetta solo la celebrazione ufficiale e la passerella dei vincitori, in scena ad Amsterdam dal 24 al 25 aprile. La giuria, composta da 19 professionisti riconosciuti a livello internazionale, ha scelto e premiato ben 53 fotografi proveniente da 25 nazioni differenti, ma solo uno ha ricevuto il premio assoluto: il vincitore del World Press Photo 2013 è il fotografo americano John Stanmeyer, della VII Photo Agency.
Il suo scatto, pubblicato su National Geographic ed eseguito a Djibouti, crocevia comune per i migranti in transito provenienti da paesi come la Somalia, l’Etiopia e l’Eritrea, mostra i migranti intenti ad alzare al cielo il loro telefono, in attesa di trovare un segnale di linea che li possa mettere in contatto con i parenti e la loro terra natia.
